How it works
The ICAO/NATO phonetic alphabet (Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, …) was adopted in 1956 to give each Latin letter a distinct, internationally understood spoken form. Amateur operators use it when passing call signs, grid squares, or names over noisy channels.

How to use
- Type your text into the input.
- Read the phonetic version below; punctuation and digits pass through with standard names (Zero, One, …).

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as the police 'Adam-Boy-Charles' alphabet?
No — that is the LAPD phonetic. NATO/ICAO is the aviation and international radio standard.
How do you say numbers?
ICAO uses Zero, Wun, Too, Tree, Fower, Fife, Six, Seven, Ait, Niner — but plain English digit names are widely understood.
